How To Stop a Puppy From Biting

Puppies are known for biting with their sharp little teeth. But did you know that if you encourage this behaviour, they can turn into an aggressive adult.

Dr Chris has some ways to iron out this troublesome behaviour.

"Biting really is the perennial problem of puppies, but why do they do it? Well there are two reasons, it's natural, it does stimulate the teeth to come through, and secondly, it's attention seeking, they want a response from you which they love.

Well what are you going to do about it? First, respond immediately with a firm 'NO', then put them on the ground and ignore them entirely. You don't want to give them that attention they so desire. You could even use a sin bin in this situation.

Toys are a great distraction and in time will hopefully teach your toothy terror, these are for chewing, not your fingers and toes...OUCH.

But here's a little trick for you. Get some good old Vicks VapoRub, get some out and rub it on your fingers, or on the furniture if they're chewing away at that. They hate the smell of it, and it will keep those biting little fangs well away."
