There are many benefits of making your dog learn to stay. However, do not tell your dog to do too much too soon. So we are going to start in baby steps and we've got to do it on leash.
Tip 1
It is important to use a firm voice while delivering your command. It should neither be too threatening nor too polite.
Tip 2
When your dog is in the 'Stay' position, hold the leash vertical over the head. Any movement by the dog would result in its neck being pulled and hence, it would know not to move until told to do so.
Tip 3
Step in front of your dog and return to your position. Practise regularly and pat your dog affectionately when it follows your instructions. Soon, your dog will learn these simple but important commands.
