Martha named 'World's Ugliest Dog 2017'

Image

How would you feel if you were the winner of an ugly contest?

This 3 year old Neapolitan Mastiff, Martha (pictured above), won the 29th Annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest and couldn't care less.

The event is held at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in California, and is used to promote adoption through learning just how beautiful these pups really are, "The contest has done much to raise awareness for adoption of dogs, and that no matter their physical detractions, these animals are loving companions...and the dogs certainly seem to enjoy the adoration of the fans."

Martha was rescued by Shirley Zindler, founder of non-profit organisation in California, Dogwood Animal Rescue Project. Martha was abused before being advertised on Craigslist, with Zindler commenting "she was nearly blind from neglect".

For beating out 13 other mutts and taking the top prize, Martha and her owner take home $1,500US, a large trophy and a trip to New York for media appearances.
