People are often misinformed when it comes to their pet's wellbeing. To uncover the facts, we reveal the truth about some common myths.

Can humans get cat flu?

No. Cat flu comes from a virus found only in cats and cannot be passed onto humans. It can be a serious illness in cats that causes symptoms similar to a head cold. Fortunately, an annual vaccine is available to prevent your cat from getting sick.

Can dogs see in colour?

Sort of. Dogs can only see the world in yellow, blue and different shades of grey. They have less light receptor cones in their retinas than humans; therefore can only see a limited colour range.

Can dogs and cats have vegetarian diets?

No. In the wild dogs and cats eat animal proteins, fats and carbohydrates. A diet lacking animal proteins can result in serious dietary deficiencies and health problems for your pet. A balanced diet is best.

Can you give milk to cats?

Yes. You can give milk to cats but must ensure it is lactose free to prevent any tummy upsets.

Does a wet nose mean a healthy dog?

Not necessarily. Dogs have wet noses and often a dry nose does indicate illness. However, a wet or dry nose does not always indicate the health of your dog and you should consult a vet if concerned.

Do all pets need vaccination and worming?

Yes. Pets can pick up viruses from many different sources even if they never leave the house or mix with other animals.

Do animals fake illness?

No. Pets are more likely to act as though nothing is wrong. If your pet shows any signs of illness, take them to the vet.
