To live a long, healthy life, your cat needs proper nutrition. Here are a few ingredients to look for when selecting an appropriate diet for your cat.

Protein

You might have heard that cats are carnivores, hence animal protein should be number one on our list. Cats obtain all their essential amino acids from animal protein. Proteins are the building blocks of organs and tissues, including cartilage, tendons, hair, skin, blood, muscles, and the heart.

Omega 3s and 6s

Healthy fats are essential in supporting your cat’s immune system, healthy coat and joints. Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids can be found in fish oil, eggs, and flaxseed, and quality cat food. Fatty acids help with anti-inflammatory processes and are essential for cats with allergies or cats that suffer from dry skin or hotspots.

Vitamins

Most vitamins are synthesized from the raw ingredients that are part of your cat’s food, which is why choosing a well-balanced and nutritious cat food is so crucial to support your cat’s good health.

Minerals

Minerals are important for cat’s health as they contribute to enzyme formation, pH balance, nutrient utilization and oxygen transportation. On the list of ingredients, look for water-soluble minerals such as calcium, iron and zinc.

Probiotics

Probiotics are great to support your cat’s digestion. This is the “friendly bacteria” that reside in your cat’s digestive tract. Probiotics help keep your cat’s immune system strong, making them a must-have ingredient for cats with any health concerns.
