10 human foods you should never give your cat

Cats are insatiably curios pets, but sometimes curiosity really can kill the cat. As tempting as it is to let your kitty have a taste of your dinner, or let them lick the plate after you're done, don't do it. Your bit of melted ice cream in the bowl really won't do them a lick of good.

Here is a list of the most harmful items to avoid:

  • 1. Dog food - can have a big impact on malnutrition and may cause heart problems. If your cat is bossing the dog and stealing thier food, feed your cat in a separate (closed) room. When the dog's finished, if there is food remaining, put it back in the pantry/fridge or throw it out.
  • 2. Raw eggs - can cause salmonella and may lead to hair and coat problems.
  • 3. Alcohol (Drinks, cleaning products, perfume, mouthwash) – can cause irreversible damage. If you spill your drink or any of these products, clean them up before your curios cat has a chance to taste them.
  • 4. Salt - can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and elevated body temperature.
  • 5. Avocado - can cause vomiting and diarrhea in your cat.
  • 6. Chocolate and caffeine - can cause vomiting, diarrhea and panting.
  • 7. Grapes and Raisins - can result in kidney failure.
  • 8. Liver - can affect your cat’s bones.
  • 9. Milk - the lactose in cow's milk can cause them diarrhea or other digestive issues. If you really feel the need to give your cat milk, make sure it's cat-specific milk.
  • 10. Onions and Garlic - can lead to red blood cell damage.

So, for your cat optimum health, feed a complete and balanced diet and ensure you keep them away and avoid the items listed above.
